Ayn Rand in Playboy

Ayn Rand in Playboy:

PLAYBOY: As a novelist, do you regard philosophy as the primary purpose of your writing?
RAND: No. My primary purpose is the projection of an ideal man, of man "as he might be and ought to be." Philosophy is the necessary means to that end.

  1. Thank you for spotlighting this quotation about Ayn Rand's central purpose in life. A clearly defined, ruthlessly pursued central purpose in life is the core of an exalted life.

  2. Thanks Burgess. Always great hearing from you.

For those reading these comments, Burgess is the author of one of my favorite books "The Aristotle Adventure". It sits on the "exclusive" shelf in my living room with only a small handful of other faves. Highly recommended because of its unique perspective on history...and what drives history -- ideas.
